Taking a Break

As you have noticed, I have been posting here less and less frequently. I have become overburdened with the amount of spam that ends up being submitted to this blog. Those of you who are actual humans don’t see it as I take care of it from the back end before it gets published. But the spam never stops. By the time I go through and delete everything, I am just not motivated to write. Plus, each time I add a post, there is more spam.

For my sanity, I decided to just back away from the blog at this point. I am going to work with my hosting service to see if there is some way to prevent all that annoying spam from being sent. But I wanted to let all you real humans know what is going on.

I hope to be back in the near future, more energized and spam free. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Back to Normal

I have not abandoned my blog, I just went on a well deserved vacation with my hubby. We spent some time in the Bahamas soaking up the sun and relaxing. So you can imagine what a shock it was to go to my local farmers market yesterday in the snow. That’s right, I said SNOW! It was coming down at a pretty fast pace and covering the veggies out for purchase. It was a tad weird to be shaking snow off a bunch of swiss chard. Here is what I scored at the market:

Apples

Sweet Potatoes

Kale

Swiss Chard

Baby Beets

Baby Turnips

Butternut Squash

Eggs

Beef Stew Meat

Broccoli

Yeah for produce! So my plan for all that stuff is this:

  • Guinness Beef, Barley and Vegetable Stew
  • Roasted Root Vegetable Salad with French Lentils and Broccoli
  • Bourbon and Orange Baked Beans with Sweet Potato Casserole and Sauteed Greens

Which one of those would you most like to see posted on this blog?

My Saturday Food Ritual

Almost every Saturday I venture to our farmer’s market. It is a great opportunity to get extremely fresh produce, support local farms, and actually meet the farmers who have produced the food. It feels good to know that everything that purchase at our farmer’s market was grown or produced within 125 miles of where we live. This keeps money in our local economy and cuts down on the distance that food has to travel to get to my table.

This week I purchased:

Cauliflower

Kale

Baby Spinach

Carrots

Butternut Squash

Celeriac (Celery Root)

Napa Cabbage

Red Skin Potatoes

When I get home I make a list of everything I purchased and then come up with a food plan for the week. Knowing me, my plan sometimes changes as I actually go to cook the food, but for now, this is my plan for the coming week.

Cauliflower, Carrot, and Napa Cabbage Stir Fry with Peanut Sauce and Steamed Rice

Roasted Butternut Squash and Celeriac with Pumpkinseed-Parsley Pesto, Sauteed Kale and Brown Rice

Cauliflower and Spinach Saute with Tahini Sauce, Roasted Red Pepper Hummus with Carrot and Celery Sticks

Which of those meals do you think sounds the best?

Blog version 3.0

I love to blog! What an awesome outlet to share with the world.  And for those of you who have been along for the ride since the beginning, this is blog #3.

I loved my last blog but found that I wasn’t able to interact with my readers as much as I wanted to.  Moving to this new blog presents so many new opportunities for both me the blogger and you the reader.

What will you find here?  For starters, I will keep posting about food and the recipe creations I come up with.  But instead of just being a list of recipes I want to expand and include cookbook reviews, recommendations on tools to use in the kitchen, and expose you to ingredients you may not be familiar with.

In addition I will be talking about my fitness endeavors and hopefully inspiring you to be active in your life.  Plus, I will include little tips and advice on how we each can do something to better our home the Earth.

My goal is to make this a fun an interactive blog where you can come to learn, share, and be inspired about your own personal wellness and the health of our planet.
